How to Move Guides in Photoshop
Guides are used in Adobe Photoshop, as well as in Adobe’s other Creative Suite programs, such as InDesign and Illustrator. Guides can be positioned on a document to help position items in a precise location and align two items or selections. You can place as many guides as you want on a Photoshop document. Photoshop allows you to toggle between showing and hiding guides, lock them in position and move them to a new location.
- Open a document in Photoshop.
-
Step 2
Click the “View” menu. Select “Rulers.” This will show the rulers on the sides of the documents, and allow you to create new guides from the rulers. To place a new guide, click and drag your cursor out from either the horizontal or vertical ruler.
-
Step 3
Select the “Move” tool from the tools palette. You also may select the “Move” tool by pressing “Ctrl” (in Windows) or “Command” (Mac OS).
-
Step 4
Place the cursor over a guide you want to move. The cursor will change a four-sided arrow icon.
-
Step 5
Drag the guide to where you want to move it.
-
Step 6
Hold down “Alt” (in Windows) or “Option” (Mac OS) to flip the guide the other direction—from vertical to horizontal or vice versa.
-
Step 7
Hold down “Shift” as you drag the guide to snap the guide to the ruler lines. If you want it to snap to the grid, click “View, Snap to, Grid.”
